Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using School Calendar API, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our service.
Description of Service
School Calendar API provides structured school calendar data for school districts in the United States. This includes first day, last day, breaks, holidays, and iCal downloads.
API Usage
When using our API, you agree to:
- Not exceed your plan's rate limits
- Follow the data storage and redistribution restrictions below
- Not use the service for any illegal purposes
- Maintain the security of your API key
Data Use, Caching, and Storage
You may use data delivered by our API to provide features and display calendar information to end users of your application, subject to your plan and these terms. Except for the limited exceptions below or our prior written authorization, you must not cache, persist, archive, mirror, or otherwise retain API response bodies or the calendar data extracted from them for later use. This restriction applies to server and browser caches, CDNs, databases, files, local storage, logs, backups, and other storage systems, including in-memory caches used across requests.
Temporary processing in memory is permitted only for the time needed to fulfill the current request and display its result. It must not create a reusable data store or serve subsequent requests. Operational logs may retain request metadata, such as status codes and latency, but must exclude response bodies and calendar content. Any service-side cache refresh intervals described in our plans do not grant permission to cache data in your own systems.
Personal calendar downloads and subscriptions provided by our service may be stored and refreshed by an individual's calendar application for that individual's personal use. This exception does not permit collecting feeds into a shared dataset, operating a data service, or supplying another API. A separate written agreement may expressly authorize additional storage, exports, or distribution; only the permissions specified in that agreement apply. An Enterprise plan or marketplace subscription alone does not grant these rights.
Redistribution and Competing Data Services
Without our prior written authorization, you must not sell, sublicense, redistribute, or make data obtained from our service available as a standalone dataset, bulk export, data feed, or API, including through a proxy or API marketplace. You must not use our responses to build or maintain a replacement school calendar database or a service that supplies substantially the same data. These restrictions apply to raw responses and to extracted, reformatted, normalized, combined, or otherwise transformed copies that retain the calendar information. Changing field names, punctuation, capitalization, or format does not create permission to redistribute it.
Ordinary end-user features, such as displaying school breaks in a travel or scheduling application, are permitted within the storage limits above. They must not expose a reusable calendar dataset to third parties. You must not deliberately remove or alter service attribution or provenance information to conceal unauthorized redistribution.
When your access ends, delete any retained service data unless a separate written agreement, the personal-calendar exception, or applicable law permits or requires its retention. Copies required by law must be isolated from active use and deleted when the retention requirement ends.
Data Accuracy
While we strive to provide accurate school calendar data, we cannot guarantee 100% accuracy. School districts may change their calendars without notice. Always verify critical dates with official school district sources.
Intellectual Property
The School Calendar API service, including its design, code, and documentation, is owned by School Calendar API. Calendar data is sourced from public school district websites. We do not claim exclusive ownership of public school calendar facts. These data-use restrictions govern data obtained through our service; they do not restrict facts you independently obtain from official district sources. Any separate open-source software license does not itself grant rights to store or redistribute data delivered by the hosted service.
Limitation of Liability
School Calendar API is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from the use of our service, including but not limited to missed school dates or scheduling conflicts.
Termination
We reserve the right to terminate or suspend access to our service at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice.
Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
